Big Jeezus Truck has done it again! Laying down another amazing album to follow up Thirty Tons Of Terror Curse Of The Undead Trucker. Mechanicsville is the third offering of in your face Rock ‘N’ Roll and Hardcore Trucker music. I told Chris if I was only ever going to get one album to review that this was the album that I wanted.
I first saw Big Jeezus Truck January 21 at the Scherzo. They put on one of the best live performances that I have seen in a long time. This album reflects what kind of a live Rock ‘N’ Roll concert should be.
Slim Reaper is the lead vocal power and throws in the harmonica in a couple of songs. Tom E. Hawk is the awesome guitar sound that Big Jeezus Truck stands for. Matt Spag is the Mohawk wearing bass guitarist. T.E.D is the air horn, drum slamming man.
The first tune on the album is Grease Fire. This tune just fired up my cd player. After about 30 seconds the Grease Fire just f*cking takes off. Without any lyrics in the song, Big Jeezus Truck shows what they are all about. Go Like Stink picks up where Grease Fire left off. High Speed, T. E.D is just wailing on the drums and Tom. E Hawk is showing off what he has to offer.
Losin It is the 3rd song on Mechanicsville. The song is about things that piss you off. There is not one thing that you can’t relate to in this song. This song is definitely worth a listen because of the catchy as hell guitar riff that Tom E Hawk plays.
Runaway is the fourth song and my definite favourite song from this album. Although this is a cover song Big Jeezus Truck has made it their own. If you have ever heard Big Jeezus Truck play this song live I would be very surprised if you didn’t make this song one of your favourites. I find that Slim Reaper’s voice is what makes this song stands out and makes it a hit. He has taking the original artists voice and taken it out to behind the woodshed and slaughtered it into what I think is Rock ‘N’ Roll gold.
Slim Reaper finally plays his long awaited harmonica in Deep Dark Mine. When I was taking pictures of Big Jeezus Truck at the Scherzo I made the mistake and stood by the speakers. When Tom E Hawk and Matt Spag yelled into the mic I lost part of my hearing, but that is what made this song stick into my mind.
Come the 7th song Red Meat and Cigarettes Big Jeezus Truck hasn’t let off of the diesel at all. By this song there is no way if you are a Rock ‘N’ Roll fan you haven’t made this album one of your favourites of all time. (up there with AC/DC Back In Black)
For Red River Rising being an acoustical offering from the band, I find that it fits perfectly into the album. I would say this is part of the Rockin country influence that can be vaguely heard in a couple of other songs from their first two albums. I couldn’t help but press the back button on my cd player a couple of times over.
The last song on this album is Keep On Drinkin. This song is only about one thing and encourages only one thing. This makes the perfect song that should be played at any party come 2:00 in the morning.
When the cd finally stopped playing after Keep On Drinkin I was kind of disappointed. I was disappointed because there were no more f*ckin head Slamming, Beer Drinking, Speeding down the highway that 200 km/h songs to come. I now proudly have put Mechanicsville in my cd collection right next to Thirty Tons Of Terror Curse Of The Undead Trucker.
