Charge Of The Light Brigade - We Haven't Been Properly Introduced

We Haven’t Been Properly Introduced by Charge Of The Light Brigade is a British Rock band but done by a Canadian Band.

As the first song comes on to play you can hear an updated and a heavier sound of The Smiths and a small dice of Nick Cave. The heavy beat of the drums stands right out and drowns the guitars to start up “Young Love”. This song is what is going to put this album into the indie rock charts and probably the song which will take Charge Of The Light Brigade the distance which they deserve. . I was a taken a little astray however by the constant tempo change throughout the song. Being that this song is one of the stronger sounding of the songs on the album, I didn’t really see the need to take the song down in tempo in a couple of verses. One of my favourite aspects about the song is the vocals and backing vocals on the track, everything is crisp and clean cut. Also if it wasn’t for the vocals I don’t think that the instruments have enough sound to create the British feel to the songs.

The split between a Rock and Powerpop album really rides strong on “Desdemona”. As the guitars and drums are strong enough to carry out the songs as a Indie Rock song, It is the smoothing and well balanced backing vocals and lead vocals which really creates the split between the two genres.  I really enjoy the step down and up chord playing during the break between a couple of verses; it adds a nice different sounding touch to the song. For the strength which comes later in the song I was surprised that the song started off with a slight light guitar hook.

If there were any doubters about the link between the British sound that I am talking about listen to the fourth song off the album titled “Charge!!!”. People always say that they are influenced by British rock but you don’t really see it now Charge Of The Light Brigade have brought it to the table. This song is placed on the album perfectly because it gives you the charge to finish off the album. The piano which was played had a very small role but was also effective in setting the tone for the song.
