Crash The Machine - 4 A.M

4 a.m is the only wakeup sound that you should be hearing every morning.

Crash The Machine 4 a.m carries ten very distinctive alternative rock tracks. They have almost created a new brand of alternative rock, by combining the sounds of Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails,Cold Play and pretty much every alternative rock band.

The Members of Crash The Machine are Jon Murray on Lead Vocals and Guitar, Brian Crane on Lead Guitar and Vocals, Mr.Freeze on Bass Guitar and Eric Murray on Drums and Vocals.

The starting of “Two Worlds” contains about twenty seconds of distorted vocals. The song sets the standard for what you are going to hear throughout the rest of the album. Crash The Machine almost has their own brand of alternative rock, I find that their sound is a little deeper and lower key. Most of the characteristics of a alternative song are there from the distorted guitars, offbeat drums, and vocals. But what really makes this song stand out as a alternative track is the vocals. The vocals carries the song throughout the duration of the song. The vocals just seems to put that extra little edge that the song needs to stand out. The guitar solo that plays around the two minute mark is a nice little touch to the song. I think I favour the guitar solo because it doesn’t really follow the flow of the song, which makes it stand out more. The song caps off with the song dissipating with the chimes and guitar.

“Better (If You’re Still)” adds to the mix of the album. Now all of a sudden the tempo and sound of the album is changed up. Now you have a Powerpop or early 90’s rock song. The opening lick could be referenced back to a band like Bon Jovi, or any great Hair bands. The rest of the song however takes a more cheerful turn compared to the other tracks, even the vocals seem to follow suit. This song I could see being played on a wide variety of different radio station formats, just because of the flexibility of the song. It still contains a Alt Rock side and also has the stronger pop sound. All in all the song is a great easy listening song. I find you can get distracted and taken away into the song because of the lead guitar, I find myself not really paying attention to the vocals as much as I do the guitars.

As you listen to “I’ll See you Again” you may think that the rest of the album may follow suit but “My Salvation” picks up where the second song left off. Their alterative edge is back with “My Salvation” at the starting of the song there is a single strummed guitar that plays behind the slow tempo vocals. The song however does pick up in the upcoming verse. The drums in this song plays a stronger role than in most of the other songs, they seem to overshadow everything else for most of the song. There isn’t anything about the drums that makes them sound out they just seem to play louder in this song. The Bass Guitar however is also more noticeable. If you prefer to listen to the guitars in a song this is also a song that you will like, the “Background” guitar is playing with a almost all out attitude. The song finishes out with the opposite effect as the starting of the song, as it has a strong finish.
