The Day Street Brothel - The Good Girl You Were Before

The Day Street Brothel Are Back To Rock The Sh*t Out Of  Our Ears!

The Day Street Brothel have released their new album called The Good Girl You Were Before. Right from the beginning of the album with the song “Hell Yeah!” your going to all of a sudden to have the urge to turn it up. The album contains twelve tracks with one being a cover of “Rabbit King”.

I have watched The Day Street Brothel play “Hell Yeah!” before in concert and the polished sound which this song contains brings this song Alive. Next to Doug’s vocals which to me have become The Day Street Brothel sound the guitars in this song really makes this song stand out. If I had to choose a lead off single to the album this would be the song. Usually I don’t look forward to the break between verses because they are sometimes filled with guitar riffs that don’t quite make sense or fit into the song, but in “Hell Yeah” they fit in perfect. The song is just  a teaser for what is to come, when I first listened to the album I probably listened to this song  at least three times before I progressed further into the album.  What I really couldn’t get over in this song is how many bands popped into my head as I listened to the song for the first time. I thought of at least three by the one minute mark in the song.

“Heavy Metal Show” This song can be called one of their anthem songs. When you see them play live or listening to The Good Girl You Were Before. The song opens up with a drum and Bass duo, but doesn’t take long before the heavy distorted guitars kick in. Doug somehow makes the song even heavier when he adds his vocals to the song that extra little bit of rasp that he adds really makes a different in the vocals for me. The combination of the bass and guitars couldn’t have been combined any better. The bass keep the focal point and the flow of song alive throughout, In between verses and especially heading into the chorus.
Throughout all their chorus in any of their songs this is my favourite one of them all, I could probably just listen to the chorus as an entire song.

“Gonna Make You Mine” is their rock “ballad” of the album, really a homage to eighties metal. Opening up the song is an acoustic guitar being played, but don’t worry it doesn’t take long before the song gets beefed up. The acoustic guitar can be heard being played in the background of the song but is quite frequently hidden by the electric guitar and vocals. This song also gets help with backing vocals as well in a couple of key parts in the song. The song also doesn’t go out with a couple of signature guitar solo in between verses. This song comes in as my second favoured songs on the album, radio playability is a maybe as it does follow suit with their other song “Heaven Sent”.
