Green Go
Borders
Green Go heavily induced Synth sound with leave you in a psychedelic haze.
Guelph’s own Green Go release Borders with their heavily induced Synth sound carries a sound that can be comparable to that of Tokyo Police Club, Daft Punk, and a toned down tempo of The Golden Dogs.
The album opens up to “Danger Bay”, which is a deeper and a slower tempo song then the rest of the songs on the album. I was surprised to hear this song first rather than deeper into the play list on the album. This song however would be good to see live because of the possible fan interaction within the song with the handclapping. Even though this song is at a slower tempo the Pink Floyd style of Synth sound really brings this song out as being one of my more favourite songs off Borders. I guarantee that you will find your self moving your head along with the beat of the songs at one point or another during the songs. What I also like about the song is the fact that you can understand everything that is being sung throughout the song, and how the Keys puts the lyrics into your head as well.
“Put Your Specs On” is one of the more stronger songs on Borders. Right from the start of the song you will see that this song has more energy than most of the other songs. The backing vocals also carry out the energy of the song as well. I enjoy how the backing vocals are performed with a bit of distortion just as Tokyo Police Club does, this way they do not overpower the lead vocals in the song. The Rhythm of the song is also unpredictable throughout the song as well. I find this really helps the song stand out as well, the tempo changes throughout the song but never goes too slow. They Synth also keep in touch with what is going on and doesn’t stretch the song out too much and change the focus of the song. The ending of the song was also a good choice by ending it strong and abrupt.
The starting of “Cash Money Gremlins” sounds as if it has been stripped from a regular Nintendo video game. Every time I listen to the starting of the song this is all that I can think of. The opening synth rip is played throughout the song so if you like the starting of the song you will probably like the entire song. The vocals however brings the song down a couple of notches though. I am not a fan of the deeper backing vocals in a couple of verses during the song especially the first verse. You may not notice the deeper vocals all the much but they still take away from Jessica’s vocals. The ending of the songs I think would have been better if it went out strong instead of a quiet exit.
Green Go will be playing the Toucan on March 5th and the best part about the show is the fact that it is FREE.
