Hey Ocean!, It’s Easier To Be Somebody Else is a delectably flavourful fifteen songs of pop music enjoyment.

Hey Ocean! now consists of three members which include, Ashleigh Ball on Vocals, David Beckingham on vocals and guitar and David Vertesi on Vocals and Bass.

What I really enjoy about his album is the fact that each song is different and does not concentrate on a specific sound. Each song has its own sound and feel to it. Along with the Pop sound the track entitled “Jimmy Switch” is a instrumental track, the songs initiates a Jazz sound upon the album.

To me Hey Ocean! has a well revolved sound and album. Each song is not dependent on the vocals or has to weigh heavily onto the instruments, alternately the vocals and instruments come together to compose a fantastic collaboration.

One song however that I feel that doesn’t fit into the album all that well is the song called “Vegabond”. I think the album could have done without this song mostly because of the vocals in the song. The beat of the song doesn’t fits in with the rhythm of the album. This song should have been put on the album last instead of in the middle of the album.

“Terribly Stable” shakes and stirs up the album a little bit. The tempo of the song is sporadic throughout the duration of the song. The song has a Jazz/pop sound which generates a very high upbeat sound. This is one my more favourable songs on It’s Easier To Be Somebody Else. On my first way through the song I didn’t really know what to expect next throughout the song, The song keeps you guessing all the way through. A nice addition to the song was the horn section that was added, unfortunately I don’t think that this song with be played live however, and if it does I believe the song will lose a lot of its characteristics.

Hey Ocean! will be playing in Kingston at The Ale House on Wednesday, September 30. And you can pick up their album by following the link on their myspace page, www.myspace.com/heyocean.
