Hue - Starting Fires

Indie alternative Rock/Pop band Hue latest album Starting Fires positive vibes falls straight through the eleven tracks which you will find on the album.

I found that they really float along so many different genres and their ability to blend them all together really sets themselves apart from blending in with the genres which they touch base on. A couple of songs may seem too heavy for the pop crowd then other songs may feel they have too much of a pop sound for the rock crowd. But one thing is for sure you have to take their songs in live to fully enjoy the album to its fullest. The production sound is lost and more of a rock sound comes out in their music live than it appears on the album.

The keyboard intro to a few of the songs off of Starting Fires which include “You Will Be”, “Follow”, “Rooftops” and “The Bump” bring creates a reverie atmosphere which does however quickly dissolve with the guitars and drums quickly taking control of the songs.

There are a couple of possible singles on the album especially their last song called “The Bump”. The Bump is probably my favourite song off the album, while falling under the reverie cloud which they have created throughout the album the highly catchy keyboard and drum intro really catches the ear right off the hop. I was surprised that this song was placed last on the album and didn’t fall closer to the beginning of the album. If the keys and the drums is not catchy enough for you they top it all off nearing the ending of the song with an echoing ooohhh which plays out a few times to help finish off the song and the album. I really like the addition of Jessica Patton on backing vocals as well her soft vocals which were added for a couple of lines really strike a right chord within the song.

Now going back to the beginning of the album the first track “You Will Be” the opening to the song is a little weak and pretty much opposite for what the rest of the song has to offer. The rest of the song has a high top rock/pop sound to it, with harmonies which help contain the vocals a little in the song. The harmonies are just a slight tidbit for what is left to come on the album. Jessica and Danny do a pretty good job throughout this song and the rest of the album with their harmonizing vocals. I am a little taken on both sides of the line if I am in favour of the soft vocals or not. They do fall inline with instrumental aspect of the song but also help weaken the sound of the guitars and drums. The song finishes out on a bit of a soft note.
