Katelyn Dawn unyielding vocals pursue perfection in her sophomore album entitled The Window. As a former Canadian Idol contestant Katelyn just flat out kills this album with her large vocal capabilities. Not only does Katelyn sing on the album she also plays her acoustic guitar on all the tracks as well.

The Window touches base and toils with different genres throughout the album. What is weird for me is one of my more favourable songs off of The Window is a country/pop song. Including the genres country and pop there is also a soft rock/jazz feel to the album as well.

The Window starts off with the song entitled “When the coffee’s cold”. Right away the album starts off with a song that has you drawn into her vocals. Katelyn performs her wide range vocal capabilities; she can go from her sweet and soft vocals to her high range vocals without any difficulty at all. When I first saw and heard Katelyn perform this song live I was immediately hooked onto the song. The song is a mix of pop/ soft rock but leans towards more of a pop sound; there also is a melodramatic feel that comes with the song as well.

“What’s a girl to do?” is the second song off of The Window. This is where the country vocals shine in Katelyn’s voice. The song isn’t a straight up country song however but more of a new country sound. If I would have to pick one of the songs that’s would be the single off of the album this would be the song that I would probably choose. It seems to have more of a lively sound compared to the other tracks off of the album. The acoustic guitar really stands out and shines in this song. The acoustic guitar goes perfect with all of the other instruments; it blends in and then stands out when it needs to be. I also like how there is the sudden stop at the end of the song instead of the song quieting down.

“Oxymoron” plays around the halfway through The Window. The title more or less first brought me to this song. This is one of the songs that have a contingent of country/pop genre. The song starts off kind of slowly but does however pick up the tempo throughout the first verse. As in the previous songs it’s not the lyrics or the music that grabs your attention but Katelyn’s vocals. The star attraction to the vocals comes at the end of the first and second verse; she just hits the perfect key and tone with her voice. The chorus is worth mentioning in this song as the lyrics are written as this.

Like an oxymoron I hater you but I love you
An oxymoron don’t want you but I do
Could you ever be so wrong?
Oh….. an oxymoron
