Lacklustre is a local Kingston band that has created a new and fresh sound. They have merged Electronica with Rock music. There are four members that combine the talents and sound of Lacklustre. Matt Baetz who has a couple of jobs in the band works with the Keyboards, Guitars, Programming and the Accordian. Lee Casement on Bass And Vocals. Tim Forbes who also has a couple of duties plays the Drums, Percussion, Programming, Keyboards, and Vocals. And the last member of the group is Derek McGihon on Vocals and Guitars. The first thing that struck me about the album was the creation of the cover. While coming in two separate pieces that have three squares in row one on top of each other. In the middle of the second section there is a foam piece that holds the CD. The album cover also showcases creative and interesting artwork.
Equal Love For Christ and Supermodels is the first song off of the album. The bass throughout most of the song overpowers and is louder than the Vocals in the song. While mixing the sound of Electronica the song is not near the same fast tempo that is accustom to Electronica. There are many different sounds that are quietly twined into the background in the song.
Heart Shaped Halo follows Equal Love For Christ and Supermodels. The song starts off slowly with a piano solo with leads into a slow jazz style drums that follow the same tempo by the piano. Then is song then cuts off into a big bass beat. The speed, beat and the sound of the song changes back and forth throughout the song. I find that this arrangement of the song makes it interesting because it is in constant change and for the first time you hear it you really dont know what is coming next. What I also found in this song was the classic deep Electronica voice that speaks and overpowers the sound of the song.
Human As Machine is the fifth song on the album. What was interesting in this song was the starting of the song is carried from the finish of the song before Human As Machine. A Heavy Guitar and loud guitar riff can be heard in this song. With the Heavy guitars it just shows that Lacklustres sound combines different aspects of different styles of music. The last minute of the song finishes out with quietly with a high pitched sound over top of a fast hitting bass beat.
Predictable, Vol.3 finishes out the Album. The song starts off with a synchronizer type of sound. The lusty bass beat is present like that can be found in other songs on the album is present. Also in parts of the song the instruments almost drown out the vocals in the song. What I found also was I liked how the vocals are not present throughout the entire song. There is a instrumental break in between the vocals. Predictable, Vol.3 is the second longest song finishing out at 6:10. The song finished out with the computerized synchronizing sound that is present through all of the tracks on the album.
