Laugh At The Fakes debut album One Night Only proves that Melodic Vocals still can reign supreme in Metal albums.

“Again and Again” starts the album off and right away Everett nails your skull with one of many to come guitar riffs. Even in his previous band his vocals really impressed me and this album is no different. Providing one of the most melodic Indie Metal vocals that I have heard in a while. Also matching with his wicked  vocals is his guitar playing, going from riff to riff Everett really leads you guessing for what is about to come next. The timing in the song also becomes a major benefactor for the songs success. The drums really take the toll on the timing providing a excellent flow between verses, I am especially keen on the use of the kick drum in this song.   Just when I thought Everett was done blazing off riffs he goes into one f*ck of a guitar solo just after three and a half minutes into the song which lands straight into one of the main riffs into the song. I am kind of pissed off at myself for missing their show in Kingston now and not being able to see the solo played live. The songs finishes off with a great extended instrumental section which can sometimes hurt a few song but in this case it just makes the song all that much better.

“Better Than You” starts off with another wicked riff, I could really see this song being a possible radio playable song for the band. There is just enough Metal where it could slip under the radar of most DJ’s with enough Rock to justify radio play. Everett’s vocals really give a song a kick in the ass as he hit’s a few higher notes in the song, and I can’t forget to mention the fact that every lyric is audible nothing is lost behind any of the instruments and the fact that you can understand every lyric in the song.  The instrumental timing in this song couldn’t have been done any better, one of my favourite aspects of the timing is how well the Chris on Bass Guitar compliments the drums and lead guitar. The Bass Guitar really gives the song an extra boost of sound.

A sweet drum intro leads your ears into “Little Angel”, it doesn’t take long before Everett takes control of the song however. Just as their previous song the timing between Julian on drums and Everett is key for the songs success. The constant sound cymbals being hit can be heard throughout the song, the crashing sounds happen just at the right moments in the song. The deep pounding backing vocals give the song a little extra in the vocal category. The timing with the ending of the song was really the way to go I couldn’t think of the song being finished in a fade out.

The time spent in the mastering and recording studio making this album into a nice crisp and clean product was a great choice. I have found that sometimes metal albums can be left a little sloppy but that is definitely not the case here.
