Lisa Bozikovic Lost August is one of a very few albums that I have witnessed the live version and the sound has been so easily transferred into the recorded version. Mind you there were a couple of instruments missing during the live version, but after listening to the recorded version the additional instruments only help to compliment her songs even further.
Because of her intimate live performance at the Artel there stands to be couple of songs which I believe strike me on a different chord comparable to if I would have just listened to the recorded version of Lost August. “No Denial” is one of the definite songs which is at the top of my list of songs followed with “Take And Take”.
Lost August starts off with a eighties step Synth Organ sounding song. As the song progresses Lisa so gently and gracefully fills out the song with her vocals, the does turn into a duet as well. With the combination of the duet I almost loose track of the instrumental portion of the songs. As I listened through Lost August a couple of times I felt this song was well suited song to be placed first on the album.
Up next is my favourite song off the album called “Take and Take”. As I was listening/watching Lisa perform “Take And Take” live, what really struck me throughout the song was how song title and the chorus was being performed throughout the song. Even as simple as the title of the song is, Lisa’s vocal performance of the title sequence will probably as it did me will leave you singing along in your head with her. If it was my choice for a lead off break out song this would be the song for Lisa to do it with. The combination sounds of Lisa’s keys also put on a nice spin to the song as well. They really help fill the void that is left between the verses.
“No Denial” after hearing this song being played on the piano which was situated against the wall in the Artel I am not able pass up on this song as I am listening to the album. Now listening to the recorded version and having the added instruments in the song I still say I twisted into which version I enjoy the most. The added backing vocals to the song really adds a deeper darker texture/sense to the song.
One song which doesn’t really go along with Lost August but did make it onto the album is “Phone Cord”. I remember listening to the song live and thought that it was a different song then. The song does however adds a new found tempo to the album. Fans of band such as The Golden Dogs will find the grace and benefits within the song. I found the song was cut a little short of potential because of the length of the song. I think the song would do more justice if the length of the song was adjusted a little bit. You seem to just get into the groove of the song and then it’s over.
