I first heard of Machinekind when I went up to Ajax to see Rise For Order and Counterfit Fifty. To me the best part of not knowing who opening bands are for shows are, you don’t have any kind of judgment heading into the show and when the band blows you away with their sound and live show like Machinekind did it makes the whole concert experience better then expected.
Machinekind is a five member band from Ajax, I find that there is no member that stands out in the band as there usually is, but all the members come together perfectly. Al is the man behind the Metallic Vocals in the band. Aaron is the one part of the backbone of Machinekind playing the Bass. Pounding the sh*t out the Skins there is Russ. One half of the Alternative sounding Guitars there is Pat and the other half is Jacob, who also plays the Synths.
There are five tracks that make up Machinekind’s self-titled E.P. Reflections, Shadow, 365, Hope Dies Last, and Deep.
Out of the five tracks on the album “Shadow” is my favourite. There are a couple of reasons why “Shadow” is my favourite song. The starting and the ending of the song is a part of the reason. I like the beat of the drums and how the bass line kicks in at the start of the song. At the end of the song the song title is repeated a few times to finish out the song. All the instruments work really well with each other in the song. I especially like the rhythm of the guitars and the deepness/heavy sound of the guitars throughout the song. During a slight break in the song the bass guitar keeps the song moving along. The vocals are also easy to follow along with.
“Hope Dies Last” starts off with a gothic style of Organ being played; with adding the Organ sound to their music to me it adds character to their music. It really is an added bonus when you BUY their album because you probably won’t hear it live. The Bass is nice and heavy in this track it is really noticeable throughout the song, it almost overshadows the song. I like how the song speeds up for a few seconds about three quarters of the way through the song.
“Deep” finishes off the album, this was a good pick to place at the end of the album it finishes off the album nicely. The vocals seem to have an angrier sound then the rest of the tracks. The rhythm of the song is great they really match up well with the vocals. At the end of the song I don’t think they would be able to finish off the song any other way but the slow fade out that they did.
You can pick up a copy of their album at any of their shows, it is also available at puretracks.com and your local HMV locations. You can also have a listen to almost all the tracks on their Myspace page. Do yourself a favour and have a listen you will be sorry if you don’t.
