This is the first EP that has been put out by Toronto based band Magneta Lane. With their influences Sonic Youth, The Kinks, Velvet Underground and I find a hint of Hole they have created an awesome new sound that is Magneta Lane. With most of the weight of the cd on the title track "The Constant Lover" has made an impact on the underground Canadian music scene. Magneta Lane is made up of three talented ladies. Lexi Valentine - on lead guitar, and Lead vocals. Nadia King - on drums. French on bass.
The Constant Lover consists of 6 fast paced and female inspired songs that has created a new sound and style that separates them from other male and female bands. All of the lyrics on the cd are written by Lexi Valentine, Nadia King helped out with all of the instrumental writing. Lexi and Nadia playing together in the fall of 2003 knew that they needed a bass player they went and asked French who played rhythm guitar to learn how to play bass guitar.
The girls have had mixed reviews about this album mostly being that the band is made up of only three females, and they only have been playing their instruments for a short period of time. I say that it is a great solid
sounding album and if you are looking for a new indie album to add to your collection this should be the album that is added.
