Marching Mind

Marching Mind
Self Titled

From Punk/Rock to Metal with a bit of a deeper sense Marching Mind takes you on a speculating experience about music.

As you look at the packaging of Marching Mind your inner artistic interests may be tweaked a little bit. My favourite page throughout the booklet is the page which you look at as you open the case. As you are looking at the picture and listening to the album for the first time you realize that the picture corresponds with the songs throughout the album.

As you listen to Marching Mind for the first time you will probably be surprised by the different sounds and Genres that Marching Mind combines into each song. Not one song sounds really similar to the other which I always find is a good thing as the album sound doesn’t turn into a bland sound. I was surprised by the mixture of the acoustic songs and sounds throughout the album. The album opens up with a acoustic sounding riff but then turns into a deep Rock/Metal sounding song. Further down the album there is the addition of a acoustic track titled “Placid Ascension”, Marching Mind also finishes out with a acoustic track as well.

The first song off the album “Data Complex” opens up with a fast paced acoustic guitar sounding riff. The riff is played out for about thirty seconds then the Deep Rock/Metal sound takes hold of the song. After listening to the intro when the heavy riff took a hold of the song I may have dropped off the weaker guitar intro. The guitar power of the song does wear off a little as the song progress’s, but does so in a good way as the vocals are able to ring out overtop. As the last verse in the songs starts the song goes back into the acoustic riff again. As I said earlier as you listen through the album for the first time you will be taken astray a little bit by the combination of Marching Mind’s song writing techniques.

The second song titled “The Way Out” has a more of a punk/rock edge to it. The intro to the song is the definite hook into the song. The vocals are one of my favourite aspects about the song. As the guitars progress throughout the song the vocals also follow along with the changes. One instrument which usually doesn’t make that big of an impact within songs is an impact in this song and that instrument is the Bass Guitar. In a few sections throughout the song the Bass Guitar carries out the beat and also the rhythm. To finish out the Marching Mind slows down the tempo dramatically and adds in Keys for a deeper “Gothic” sound.
