Interview With Beautiful Inferno
1. Where did your band name Beautiful Inferno and album name Gasoline Rainbow come from?
I thought of the name "Beautiful Inferno" back in high school and it seemed to really describe the nature of the music. It's both melodic and explosive. It's very unpredictable and spontaneous. Fragile even. I think beauty and destruction are my two favorite elements of Rock Music. I really admire bands that are capable of blowing your ear drums and breaking your heart at the same time. The name for our album "Gasoline Rainbow" just seemed appropriate for the style of music. It's dirty sounding Pop/Rock. The songs are catchy and have a lot of melody, but we cover them with a blanket of fuzz and distortion.

2. Are you finding it hard to find shows locally to play here in Kingston?
It was very difficult for us to get shows when we first moved to Kingston 3 years ago. The music scene was a lot different back then. The local msuic scene had more of a heavy metal/punk posture back then. In the past year or so we have finally established ourselves locally and have developed a strong following in the city. Since then we have played almost every venue in Kingston a few times each and now we have venues and promoters coming to us to play shows which is a pretty good position to be in. We play about 3 local shows per month.

3. Where was the album recorded?
The album was recorded in Kingston at "Munky in a Box Studios." It is a home studio owned and operated by a professor at St. Lawrence College, Mark Bussieres that one of our girlfriends had as a professor in College and she helped to connect us with him.

4. How did the recording process go?

The recording process went quite well, but it was time consuming due to our other commitments outside of the band (ie. work, school). We thoroughly enjoyed the experience though. We learned a lot and Mark was a pleasure to work with. He gave us a lot of helpful tips, he understood the sound we were looking to achieve and he helped us create the album we wanted to make.

5. Did you record any songs that didn’t make it to the album?
We didn't attempt to record any songs that were left off of "Gasoline Rainbow" because we decided which 10 songs we would record before entering the studio. But there was a few songs that we were performing at shows and practices that didn't make the final cut when we decided that track listing.

6. Who does the writing for the band or is it shared with the entire band?
Mike Brown and I wrote all of the songs for the album, but the other guys help us piece them together and collectively we structure the songs. Only one song from "Gasoline Rainbow" was actually written together, "Prospect in Me." The other 9 songs Mike and I wrote seperately.

7. Will you take any of your experiences and put them to use on the next album?
We definitely learned a lot from the recording process for this album, and we will apply the knowledge we gained from it to our next studio effort.

8. Are you able to take the album sound and recreate the album live?
We would like to believe that we are capable of duplicating the way the songs sound on the album at our live shows. We wanted to the album to feature a raw, un-polished quality that would allow us to create a reflection of our live shows.

9. Where can people pickup a copy of  your album?
"Gasoline Rainbow" is available for purchase at 4 stores in downtown Kingston. It can be found at Chumleigh's, Brian's Record Option, CD Exchange, and Zap Records. 10. At our shows leading up to and the shows after the album was released our sets at our shows exclusively featured songs from the album. Lately we've been testing our newer songs that we are working on at our shows and they are getting a positive response by the audience(s). We intend to begin recording our follow up album, "Commercial Neon" in the Summer.

10. During you live show do you play the entire album or do incorporate different songs into your setlist?
At our shows leading up to and the shows after the album was released our sets at our shows exclusively featured songs from the album. Lately we've been testing our newer songs that we are working on at our shows and they are getting a positive response by the audience(s).
