Saturday night at the Merchant Tap House brought back to Kingston Paint with local openers Vorasek.
Paint is currently on tour in support of their new album Where We Are Today. Kingston was the last couple of stops on their tour.
This was the first time that I have watched Vorasek live since watching their album release party a couple of months ago. In such a short period of time these guys have grown quite quickly and efficiently, quickly adding in another member the guys have really expanded their sound. Their set list included songs from their newly released album and even songs which they are currently working on and are going to add to there already in the works album. It didn’t take long for Patrick to let loose on the stage probably about halfway through their first song. He never stayed in once place for any real length of time venturing from the front of the stage to the back near the drum kit where he had more room to move around. The looks between Mat and Ted where met with a almost look of overindulgence from Patrick. Unfortunately for Ted it didn’t take too long before his Bass gear broke down on him, it seemed to keep cutting in and out for a little bit but finally stopped working completely, he almost pulled off just playing his bass without it working but it didn’t take long for people to notice that there was something missing. It didn’t take long to get the Ted going again and Vorasek finished off their set without any more problems. If you have bought their album without watching them play live you may be a little disappointed with the sound that you get from the album pretty much because Vorasek is a band to see and hear live and not really as much to just listen to their album. To finish off their se they played a song which is off of their new album which is currently in the works according to the band, and I am pretty sure it was the same song which they played last at their cd release party as well.
Paint is a band which I started to follow a couple of years ago after they released their album Can You Hear Me?. Paint played songs from both albums which is pretty much a must with their sets as a couple of their songs have become staples in their set and I don’t think the set would be the same without them a couple of the songs are “Madonna”, “Don’t Blow Me Away”, “Strangers” “Boomerang”. There are also a couple of covers which they tend to add in for a little bit of a mix, one song in particular which gets stuck in my head for the next couple of days because of Mandy’s lead guitar parts is their cover of Mgmt Kids. I much prefer Paint’s version of the song because of the fact that they have stripped the song down to bare bones, with just the guitars/drums and without the extra synth sound added to the song. Mandy also managed to get herself quite the attention during the song from the male audience members which to me looked as if she was blushing from everyone yelling and applauding as she was playing, Robb made a comment later on about the attention she was getting as well. One component of Paint’s live show which will always stand out to me is Robb’s Vocals the professionalism really comes out during his live shows, I really noticed how his interaction with the audience increased tonight and trying to sly more and more people up to the front of the stage throughout the night. Even for the sound system which is in the Merchant Tap House Robb comes out over top with pristine vocals throughout the night, knowing when to lean back to give the song that much more emphasize on the lyric at hand. I was hoping that the night was going to go a little later on closer to last call, but after the two sets which they played I was still left leaving happy at the end of the night.
