The Light Brights - The World's A Changin'

While not settling down on one specific sound yet The World’s A Changin’ by The Light Brights offers everything from Pop, Blues to Rock.

A main driving force behind The Light Brights sound is Bethany on Lead Vocals and Lead Guitar. She is able to pull off singing many different styles as none of the songs on the album really sound similar. The tempo of the able varies along with the different genres of the album. Also on the Drums is Andrew Dahms and Chad Harrington on Bass and Backing vocals.

The title track starts off the album “The World’s A Chanin’. This song is one of their stronger songs on the album and my favourite song on the album. The song really combines a few different genres together including, Jazz, Pop and Blues and really comes together nicely. The piano in the song which is played by Bethany is one of the more beneficial instruments to the song. The piano blends along side the guitar in the song really well and both the guitar and piano only compliment each other. For the vocals in the song Bethany really goes with a blues and pop sound which plays out for most of the song but nearing the end is almost lost in behind the drums and guitars.

The second song on the album “Waiting For The Truth” is a definite standout song on the album. There are dramatic sounding vocals which are going an 1/8th the speed which the Bass guitar is going. It takes a little over a minute before the tempo speeds up.  I had to listen to the song a few times before I really started to take in the song. I skipped over the song a couple of times during the first few passes through the album, but the song somewhat grew on me after listening to the song a couple of times. What really got me the most in the song is the constant tempo and decibel changes throughout the song.

“Shine A Little Light” takes a snippet of Ska minus the horn section. The speed and the sound of  guitars and drums is there however. Listening to the song live takes a different turn as well because there is a keyboard which is added into the mix which you will not find on the recorded version of the song. The song does contain a couple of slower spots in the song during a verse change over. Nearing the ¾ mark the song takes another turn and turns into a blues jams. Really out of nowhere  the drums take off into a small barrage  for a few seconds. The song does finish a lighter softer note than as the song began.
