The Johnsons' Gypsies For Life is nothing less then punk that we all know and love. If you have been looking for a new punk album to add to your collection I would recommend this album. If you are not hooked to The Johnsons after the first song then you don’t know your music. This isn’t that fake stuff that Good Charolette puts out this is the real stuff.

Playing out of Alberta, Canada The Johnsons are “On Tour For Life” as they say. Their album has ten full length song which I was surprised at how many songs there were on the album. Also on the album are two of the longest song titles that I have seen, “It’s Hard To Be Sad When You’re Rolling Around On Piles Of Cash” and “People Call Me The Part-Time Party Machine Because Sometimes I Like TO Party And Other Times I Have To Work”.

The first song on the album is the title track “Gypsies For Life”. All Albums need a song to kick off their album and “Gypsies For Life” is no exception to that rule. The opening riff in the song is just a classic opening to me, The same riff is played a couple of times throughout the song. One thing to tune your ears into is the drums, this is also a big part of the song, but it is really the guitars that take this song to its fullest. I don’t think the band could have picked a better song to kick off their album.

In the song “It’s Hard To Be Sad When You’re Rolling Around On Piles And Piles Of Cash” The Johnsons taps a little bit into Screamo during this track. But for the most part the track is still punk. The Guitars and the Drums really overshadow the vocals in this track, the instruments is what really carries this song out.

“Down With Pants” can be almost summed up by calling it a solo song. With the classic Punk stylings, for most of the song the instruments are pretty much playing different speeds, and don’t really blend to the same tone or sound of the song. There is however a nice little shred from the Guitars near the end of the song.

All in all The Johnsons' Gypsies For Life is your average punk band but to me has a bit more of a edge on most punk bands because they have more than five songs and have released a full length album. My favourite song off of the album was the title track “Gypsies For Life”. If they are touring in your town or City I would go out of my way to catch these guys at a live show.
